Words from our Members

I would say that I have been on a spiritual journey all my life. I grew up Catholic and was very involved in the Church, the ritual, the sense of social justice and the music....and even worked in Latin America for almost 9 years with the church.

However, something was missing for me. About 5 years ago, I embarked on a quest of finding the right place that would help me to practice living my life in a loving way. A place that would help me to practice on a daily basis to touch my heart and care deeply for others. I can't tell you the number of churches and groups I visited. When I came to the
Shambhala Center three years ago, I knew I had found my place. As a new meditator, I struggled with the practice, but was strangely drawn to the way that it was helping to guide me in my day to day life at work and in my relationships with family and friends.

I know that I am home and that I am walking the journey I desire, with all its ups and downs.

I joined as a member of the Boston Shambhala Center once I noticed how much time and effort the staff and volunteers put into creating an enlightened and uplifted environment for practice and study. I wanted to match their effort, not just with practice and study of my own, but also with a financial commitment. I was raised in a strong culture of tithing, and to me it's just always made sense to contribute financially to places that are doing real work to spread goodness in the world.

After a year of attending events and classes, I wanted to contribute to the Boston Shambhala Center, but felt that I could not afford the monthly membership dues. Joining at the 'Friendship Level' of membership, enabled me to get more involved at a place that has a meaningful role in my life, and where I found myself spending a lot of time taking classes, helping out at Wednesday Night Open Houses, and meeting people. I enjoy being a Friend of the Center, which has, for me, become a center of friends.
